Shortly after 8 a.m., police and emergency crews responded to the collision between a northbound pickup truck and a southbound pickup on Highway 4, about 10 kilometres south of the city.

RCMP say both vehicles sustained fire damage in the collision. The lone driver of the northbound vehicle, a 25-year-old woman from Blumenort, Sask., was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim’s family has been notified and her name is not being released.

The lone driver of the other vehicle, a 31-year-old man from the Swift Current area, was airlifted to hospital by STARS air ambulance with undetermined injuries.

Highway 4 was closed in both directions near the scene for several hours while Mounties investigated. The highway has since reopened.
