An open fire ban has been issued for parks and other areas across Saskatchewan as several wildfires continue to burn.

The province says hot, dry weather has created ideal conditions for fires to spread, especially in northern areas.

As of Friday, there were 21 wildfires burning in Saskatchewan and so far this year, there have been 183 in the province -- nearly twice as many compared to the same period in 2014.

Officials say only two of the fires reported this year were sparked by natural causes, while the rest were man-made and could have been prevented.
