Police in Saskatchewan issued 760 tickets for speeding in school zones during a province-wide traffic safety blitz in September.

Saskatchewan Government Insurance says police issued an additional 1,226 speeding tickets and laid 71 charges for impaired driving-related offences during the month.

Officers also handed out 425 seatbelt tickets, fined 164 drivers for running a red light or stop sign, and issued 160 tickets for using a cellphone behind the wheel.

SGI says drivers caught speeding in a school zone could face a fine of at least $190 and three demerit points.
