Two people are in custody after an incident in North Central overnight.

Police were called to the 1400 block of Princess Street around 11:38 p.m. on Wednesday night after a report that people had arrived at the house with guns and other weapons. SWAT and the explosives unit were also called out.

When police arrived, a 22-year-old man was outside. Police took him to a safe location to be interviewed.

Police set up a perimeter around the house and began trying to communicate with the occupants. A 22-year-old woman came out, but the rest of the occupants stayed inside.

The SWAT team used the tactical armoured vehicle to get close to the house and the bomb squad used the explosives device unit to deliver a landline phone into the home.

In spite of these attempts, the occupants still refused to come out of the house, so SWAT deployed gas into the basement of the building.

Around 6:20 a.m., a 34-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman came out of the house and were taken into custody. Police are still waiting to get a search warrant to enter the premises.

Traffic was shut down in the area overnight but is now back to normal.
