The Yorkton Municipal RCMP are getting a boost.

The Government of Saskatchewan is contributing $330,000 to fund three existing Yorkton RCMP positions dedicated to targeted programs in 2017-18.

“Community safety is a major priority for the Government of Saskatchewan,” said Rural and Remote Health Minister and Yorkton MLA Greg Ottenbreit, on behalf of Justice Minister and Attorney General Don Morgan, in a news release. “This grant provides the support needed for those hardworking police officers dedicated to protecting Yorkton and area.”

The Municipal Police Grants are meant to support enhanced community policing throughout the City.

“The province’s ongoing funding of the Municipal Police Grant is greatly appreciated,” said Yorkton Mayor Bob Maloney, in the release. “This funding provides us with the capacity to acquire specialized skills that enhances our ability to ensure the safety of Yorkton families.”

According to RCMP, funding from the provincial government is used to support 128 municipal police positions and policing initiatives.
