The Saskatchewan government is putting $14 million toward the construction of a second elementary school in White City.

Education Minister Russ Marchuk made the announcement at a groundbreaking ceremony for the $22 million school Monday afternoon.

The LEED-certified facility, dubbed Emerald Ridge Elementary School, will accommodate 475 students in kindergarten to Grade 8, as well as 50 early learners.

It will have shared spaces where children can learn in groups. The school is slated to open in 2014.

Since taking power in 2007, the Saskatchewan Party government has invested about $500 million in just over 900 school capital projects.
