A Saskatchewan charity is using purses to raise money to make sick children’s wishes come true.

The Children’s Wish Foundation hosted Purses for Wishes at the Double Tree Hotel in Regina on Sunday, selling purses, wallets and scarves to eager shoppers hoping to make a difference.

“It’s for a really good cause and it’s a lot of fun,” said shopper Catherine Haines. “The money is going towards a foundation that allows kids with disabilities, terminal illness or any sort of setback that they are facing an opportunity to do something that’s on their bucket list.”

The event was hosted by Wish recipient Halle Paul, whose family went on a trip to London and Paris this past summer.

“Having the wish gave us the opportunity to go away and forget about some of the health issues and take a break from things,” Halle’s mother, Heather Kimball-Paul, said.

Kimball-Paul said the event was a natural choice for her fashion-loving daughter.

Purses for Wishes also held a silent auction, featuring purses donated by local singer Jess Moskaluke and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau.

“It’s a way to engage a different market of potential donors to our cause,” said Allison Horton of the Children’s Wish Foundation.

The event hopes to raise at least $5,000.
