An RCMP officer has been charged with assault after allegedly punching a man in the face through a rolled down car window.

The alleged incident is said to have happened on Sept. 11 outside the Regina International Airport.

A man, who filed a report with the Regina Police Service stating he was the victim of an assault, said another man punched him in the face when he rolled down his window.

RCMP said the Regina Police Service charged 37-year-old Cpl. Philippe Cleroux on Dec. 21. At the time of the alleged incident, Cleroux was off duty.

The Regina Police Service said in an email Cleroux “was acting as a private citizen when the alleged assault occurred.”

An internal investigation has been launched by the Regina Police Service since the alleged incident.

Cleroux is on regular duty at RCMP Depot Division, teaching in the police defensive tactics unit, according to the RCMP.

He is set to appear at the Regina Provincial Courthouse Jan. 30
