Regina city council has approved $11 million in funding for a new building at Evraz Place.

The decision was made by a unanimous vote at Monday night's council meeting.

The International Trade Centre will replace outdated barns near the Lewvan Drive entrance at Evraz Place. The project is considered vital to keeping Agribition in Regina.

The remainder of the $38 million total cost of the project will be covered by the federal and provincial governments, as well as donations from the private sector.

Evraz officials say the new centre will be one of the best trade show facilities in the country.

Construction is scheduled to begin after this fall's Agribition and is expected to take two years to complete.
