City officials say there were 280 water main breaks in Regina in the month of September.
That's a new record, and almost double the average for this time of year.
The unusually hot and dry weather is being blamed for the unprecedented damage to underground infrastructure.
Officials say the sudden change from wet soil this past spring, to dry soil in the fall has caused ground shifting like they've never seen before. It hasn't rained in Regina in almost six weeks.
