A Regina man has been charged after police say he drove 183 kilometres an hour through a construction zone on the Ring Road.

On Sunday night, officers were conducting laser speed enforcement while workers were in a construction zone on the Ring Road at Wascana Parkway.

One of the officers heard the roar of an engine and saw a maroon-coloured car travelling northbound at a high rate of speed. According to police, the officer clocked the vehicle's speed at 183 km/h.

Police say it was not feasible for the officer to get into the northbound lanes to follow the speeding car, and there were no other police units at other points on the Ring Road, so the driver could not be stopped. The car was last seen weaving in and out of northbound traffic on the Ring Road.

On Friday, police announced 26-year-old Richard Alexander Smolek Harty of Regina has been charged with dangerous driving. The 2006 Nissan 350Z he was allegedly driving will also be impounded for 30 days. His first court appearance is scheduled for July 27.
