A Regina police officer discharged a Taser while arresting a 29-year-old man on Thursday.

Police were called to a domestic call in the 600 block of Wascana Street around 3:15 p.m. According to police, a man had allegedly assaulted a woman. Police say officers could arrest the man for assault with a weapon, uttering threats and had outstanding warrants. The man barricaded himself in a room and told officers he was going to harm himself with a knife.

Police say officers were able to get into the room. The man was uncooperative, actively resistant and assaultive towards the officers, police said in a news release. One officer deployed a Taser and the man was taken into custody without further incident.

The man was taken to hospital, where he was assessed and released into police custody. He was taken to RPS detention and subsequently charged.

Barry Apooch, 29, is charged with assault with a weapon, uttering threats and mischief. He was released with conditions to appear in court on April 27.
