Regina police have released the name of the city’s eighth homicide victim of the year.

The victim has been identified as 48-year-old Matthew John Wells of Regina.

Around 3:40 a.m. Thursday, police were dispatched to a house in the 1500 block of Robinson Street for a report of an injured person. There were also reports of shots fired in the same area.

When police and EMS arrived, they found Wells dead inside the home. His family has been notified of his death.

So far, no one has been charged in the homicide, and police are continuing to investigate.

Investigators are still working to determine whether the case is connected to another incident, in which shots were fired into an apartment in the 2200 block of Robinson Street around the same time early Thursday morning. No one was hurt in that incident.

Anyone who may have information that could help with the investigations is asked to contact Regina police or Crime Stoppers.
