For a third time in just over a week, Regina police have used a Taser on a suspect.

The latest incident happened while police were responding to a noise complaint at a home in the 2200 block of Winnipeg Street early Tuesday morning.

When officers arrived at the home, a 22-year-old man believed to have caused the disturbance was locked inside a room.

Officers knocked on the door and were attempting to speak with the man when he opened the door, wielding two “bladed weapons,” police said.

Police ordered the man to drop the weapons, but they say he refused to do so and one of the officers used a Taser on him.

The man was arrested and transported to hospital, in accordance with the Regina Police Service’s policy on Taser use.

Sumaili Kissu of Regina faces charges of assaulting a police officer and two counts of assault with a weapon. He was scheduled to make his first court appearance Tuesday afternoon.

Last Thursday, police responding to a domestic disturbance call used a Taser on a 42-year-old man during an alleged altercation at a home the 2300 block of Cornwall Street.

On Oct. 20, police deployed a Taser after a fleeing suspect ran towards an officer during a foot chase in Regina’s west end. Police said the stun gun had little or no effect on the 30-year-old man, who continued to flee, and was later arrested.
