The power of “We” was the topic of discussion at Campbell Collegiate Friday morning.

Over 1,000 students from Campbell and Thom Collegiate gathered for the Regina Public Day of We.

"The amount of work these students are doing - it's really amazing,” said First Nations humorist and author Drew Hayden Taylor, who spoke at the event.

““And, not only that, the sense of cross-cultural exchange that I see within the confines of this school.”

The event began three years ago and aims to spread a message about how students can create positive change around the world.

Since the event’s induction, Campbell students have raised about $37,000. The earnings are put towards initiatives in less fortunate countries.

Student advocates took the stage hoping to engage their young audience about this year’s event initiatives, which are geared towards hunger and healthcare in Tanzania.

However, Taylor may have been more emotionally moved than the student body.

“Where I grew up it was all white students with some native students thrown in, and getting the sense of the multitude nature of the world that exists in this microcosm of a school is just wonderful," he said.

The event runs throughout the school day and is livestreamed to all Regina public high schools.
