Changes are coming to high school graduation celebrations in Regina.

Regina Public Schools says it will no longer host graduation banquets. Instead, the focus will be on cap and gown ceremonies.

The school board wants to ensure the occasion can be celebrated by everyone, saying the cost of venues, meals and services has become too expensive for some. It also cited safety as a concern.

In the coming months, additional events are to be planned, such as proms, to celebrate graduation differently.
