Regina’s police force is among the most overstaffed in the country, according to a new study by the Fraser Institute.

The Regina Police Service ranked ninth on the list of the 10 most overstaffed police forces in Canada, with 185 officers per 100,000 people in 2013.

The study found police forces in Saint John, Winnipeg and Windsor were the most overstaffed, while those in Kelowna, Moncton and Ottawa-Gatineau had the most efficient staffing levels.

It also found that while the cost of policing in Canada rose by 45.4 per cent between 1986 and 2012, the number of criminal code incidents handled by each officer dropped by 36.8 per cent.
