The official premiere of "Corner Gas: The Movie" will be held Tuesday night in Regina.

About 300 invited guests took in the Saskatchewan-based film at the world premiere of the movie Monday in Saskatoon.

The story picks up where the show left off five years ago but now, Dog River is low on cash and the townspeople need to rally together to save their beloved home.

Corner Gas creator and star Brent Butt says it was a challenge taking the story from a sitcom to a feature film.

“You have to keep it kind of small because that's what people liked about it, so it’s a real balancing act,” Butt said.

“We went back and forth with script and there was a lot of push and pull. At certain times it would feel like we were losing corner gas in order to make a movie, but other times it felt like we had lots of Corner Gas, but it wasn't very cinematic.”

Tonight's VIP screening is taking place at the Sound Stage, with most of the cast members in attendance. CTV will be there and will bring you the highlights tonight on the News at Six and 11:30.
