Regina will kick off the new year with an event celebrating Canada’s 150th anniversary.

Countdown to Canada’s 150: New Year’s Eve in Regina will include indoor and outdoor activities at the Conexus Arts Centre, Saskatchewan Science Centre and Wascana Park on Dec. 31. The event begins at noon and will end with a fireworks display at 6 p.m.

“Regina is excited to have the opportunity to host this fun-filled event to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary,” said Regina Mayor Michael Fougere said in a news release.

“By featuring local multicultural and Indigenous performances, a DJ dance party, a magician and comedian, how-to-paint sessions, as well as outdoor activities including ice skating, snow decorating and much more - this event offers something for everyone.”

The City of Regina will provide free transit between the three venues. The federal government is giving the city $150,000 through the Canada 150 Fund for its celebrations.

“On December 31, the entire country celebrates! Major festivities will take place in 19 large urban centres to kick off a year of exceptional celebrations,” said Canadian Heritage Minister Mélanie Joly.

“I encourage all Canadians to participate in activities across the country and to be privileged witnesses of this extraordinary day in our country’s history.”
