Two men will stand trial in the death of 25-year-old Rob Vicente after a preliminary hearing in Regina came to an unexpected end.

The Crown says the defence for Darak More and Devin Schmit has agreed there’s enough evidence to try them on charges of first-degree murder and robbery with a firearm.

With that, the preliminary hearing that had been scheduled for three weeks came to an abrupt end, just one day after it got underway.

Details of the hearing can’t be reported due to a court-imposed publication ban. Both men have pleaded not guilty.

After a four-month search, police found the body of Vicente on a rural property near Davidson in February 2011.

A date hasn’t been set for the trial at Court of Queen’s Bench. The two accused have elected to be tried by judge and jury.
