The Saskatchewan Roughriders added some defensive depth to their lineup on Tuesday. The team acquired defensive backs Fred Bennett and Jeff Hecht from the Calgary Stampeders in exchange for a pair of negotiation list players.

Bennett is in his 5th CFL season. The 32-year-old South Carolina product has appeared in 73 games for the Stamps recording 166 defensive tackles, 10 interceptions and seven forced fumbles. The international player was also a 2014 West Division All-Star and a Grey Cup Champion.

Jeff Hecht is in his 6th CFL season. He originally signed with the Montreal Alouettes in 2011 before moving on to Calgary. The 30 year old has appeared in 73 regular season games recording 50 defensive tackles to go with 37 special teams tackles. The Edmonton native is also a Grey Cup Champion.

In a release, Stampeders President and General Manager John Hufnagel thanked Bennett and Hecht for their contributions over the past five seasons, adding “they were both quality people off the field and I wish them the best of luck.”

The Roughriders face the Tiger-Cats on August 20th in Hamilton. Kick off is slated for 5pm.
