The Saskatchewan government has selected the route for the Trans-Canada Highway bypass that will be built around Regina.

The south bypass will stretch from Highway 33 southeast of Regina to Highway 1 west of the city.

It’s one of five routes that were put forward at open houses earlier this year.

The province says the new bypass will greatly alleviate traffic bottlenecks on Victoria Avenue East and allow shippers to travel around the city without stopping.

The Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure will now undertake a functional planning study, which will determine, among other things, access to the bypass, as well as the configuration of overpasses.
