Communities across southern Saskatchewan are dealing with flooding not seen in years and in some areas, it's expected to be much worse than initially predicted.

The Saskatchewan Watershed Authority now says the entire valley will be hit with water levels unseen since the massive flood in 1974.

In Lumsden, town officials are taking precautionary measures, such as building berms over low-lying railway tracks.

Meanwhile, the Craven World Campground near Craven has been flooded out. About 50 unattended trailers remain on the lot. The Craven Country Jamboree grounds are also under water.

The water breached the dikes at about 8 a.m. Wednesday. At this point, there is no damage estimate.

On Tuesday, crews were sandbagging along the edge of the Swift Current Creek and officials are continuing to monitor levels.

Today, crews are continuing to shore up flood-prone areas. Water levels are expected to rise, possibly peaking this afternoon.

However, officials say they're confident the flood protection measures will hold up. They say the predicted peak flow is only about half of what the berms they've built can withstand.
