Saskatchewan Finance Minister Kevin Doherty says the province will not be taxing diapers.

In the budget released last week, the government added provincial sales tax to things that were previously exempt such as children's clothing and footwear.

An information notice that followed said cloth and disposable diapers were included too, but the finance minister now says that's not going to be the case.

Doherty says when officials were writing the notice about the tax change, they took the definition of children's clothing from the federal government and that's why diapers were mistakenly included.

The tax change for children's clothing doesn't kick in until April 1, so Doherty says he doesn't believe that anyone paid PST on diapers.

PST also doesn't apply to incontinence or feminine hygiene products.
