A Saskatchewan First Nation has given an RCMP officer the highest honour a non-aboriginal person can receive from the community.

The Kinistin Saulteaux Nation, near Tisdale, presented Const. Cameron Schmidt with an eagle feather for arresting two people who were allegedly dealing drugs on the reserve.

Chief Albert Scott says allegations of drug dealing are a black eye on the reserve.

But Scott says Schmidt's actions have put a big dent in drug use in the community and people are grateful.

Certain eagle feathers have names and Scott says the feather given to Schmidt is one called gratitude.

Schmidt says it's an unbelievable honour and he didn't know his actions would have such a big impact on the community.
