The Saskatchewan government is making good on an election promise, pumping $1.9 million into the province's indoor rinks.
Starting Monday, communities can apply for a grant of $2,500 per ice surface. The money is intended to help with maintenance and operating costs for the roughly 750 enclosed ice rinks in Saskatchewan.
It costs about $150,000 a year to operate some rinks. Currently, energy and staff costs are paid for by users.
The government says the grant is a way to help keep community rinks up and running, while maintaining a balanced budget.
