Saskatchewan’s NDP Opposition has introduced a bill that would ease some of the financial strain associated with escaping abusive situations.

Groups that work with victims of domestic violence were at the legislature Wednesday to witness introduction of the bill. They say the need is real.

Saskatchewan has the highest rate of domestic violence in the country, and provincial lawmakers agree that more supports are needed.

Opposition bills have little chance of becoming law without the support of the government majority. The Saskatchewan Party has promised to consider what the NDP is proposing.
