Saskatchewan has now received more than $29.5 in community infrastructure funding through the federal Gas Tax Fund.

That figure represents the first of two installments for the 2016 fiscal year. The federal government says Saskatchewan will receive more than $59.1 million through the fund this year.

The funding is expected to support more than 100 local infrastructure projects, including wastewater and disaster mitigation projects in the town of Pilot Butte just east of Regina. It will also help fund construction of an $8.9 million sports complex in Wynyard.

In addition, the federal government is working with the province to finalize a bilateral agreement for two new funding programs – the Public Transit Infrastructure fund, and the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund.

Saskatchewan has received more than $485 million in funding through the federal Gas Tax Fund since its introduction in 2005.
