Saskatchewan is expected to welcome 850 of the 25,000 Syrian refugees that will come to Canada, although it is still unclear how that will break down by municipality.

The cities preparing to take in refugees include Regina, Saskatoon, Moose Jaw, and Prince Albert.

The news comes as the Liberal government announced that the process is going to take longer than originally planned.

Rather than bring 25,000 people in by year's end, the group will now be split in two, with 10,000 to arrive by Dec. 31 and the rest by the end of February.

Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall says he welcomes the federal government's decision to take more time to bring in 25,000 Syrian refugees.

However, Wall also says he still doesn't believe there should be a specific deadline at all.

Wall says he knows that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau values the safety of all Canadians and wants to ensure a successful settlement for refugees.

But the premier says all the time necessary to ensure security and successful settlement should be taken.
