Saskatchewan residents can now automatically receive storm alerts on their cellphones on the new Saskatchewan Emergency Alert app, available for Apple and Android devices.

Users will get an alert on their smartphones when a tornado or blizzard is approaching.

Communities can also add local information like boil water advisories.

The project is sponsored by the provincial government as a way of reaching people with critical information.

Saskatchewan is the second province in Canada to offer a public alert system app, it’s based on a similar app in Alberta.
