The Saskatchewan government has launched a cemetery database to help historians and communities keep track of the past.

The province says the database will store information about such things as the size and location of cemeteries and the number of people buried in them.

The online tool is also expected to help groups responsible for cemeteries make better informed decisions about care and maintenance of burial sites.

The Saskatchewan Genealogical Society says tracking and finding cemeteries is important in telling the story of the province and its pioneers.
