SOUTHEY, Sask. - A 38-year-old Saskatchewan woman has been fined $750 and prohibited for a year from having animals after pleading guilty to a Criminal Code charge of wilfully neglecting or abandoning an animal.

RCMP say Kelly Young also pleaded guilty to causing distress to an animal under provincial statutes.

The charges stemmed from an investigation on May 5, 2011, in the Strasbourg-Bulyea area.

RCMP assisted the SPCA in removing about 50 dogs from an acreage in the area.

Some of the dogs were euthanized as their health was failing while others found new homes though adoption.
