Saskatchewan's Opposition says the government is failing to address a $1.5-billion deficit in school repairs.

Education critic Trent Wotherspoon says schools that are structurally unsound need to be made safe for children.

A report from the Saskatchewan School Boards Association in 2013 said 75 per cent of school roofs would fail within five years.

Education Minister Don Morgan says the government is contributing more money to preventative maintenance every year.

He says school divisions have their own priorities for building repairs and the government works with them to decide which projects are most urgent.

Wotherspoon has said the government needs a long-term plan to deal with school maintenance and repairs.
