Emergency crews responded to a serious collision between a car and a school bus on the Trans-Canada Highway just east of Regina on Friday afternoon.

The car became wedged underneath the rear of the bus in the crash, which happened in the eastbound lanes of Highway 1 at Tower Road around 3:15 p.m.

The male driver and lone occupant of the car was freed from the wreckage by firefighters and taken to hospital with undetermined injuries.

RCMP say there were an unknown number of children on board the bus at the time of the collision, but it appears none of them were hurt.

Eastbound traffic on Highway 1 was down to one lane for several hours as Mounties investigated the incident.
