A Winnipeg jury has been shown photographs of Beverly Rowbotham taken just hours before her violent death.
The photos are from a grocery store surveillance system, and show Rowbotham shopping with her youngest son on the afternoon of October 24th, 2000.
Early the next morning, Rowbotham was found dead in her car, and her husband Mark Stobbe was later charged with second-degree murder.
Crown witnesses have testified that Stobbe told them his wife had gone grocery shopping in the afternoon, but their son was acting up, so she left early, planned to return to the store that evening and disappeared on the way.
But the surveillance photos show Rowbotham spent 46 minutes inside the store that afternoon, and do not show the young boy misbehaving.
The Crown alleges Stobbe killed his wife with a hatchet in their backyard, then drove her body to a location not far from the grocery store, bicycled back home and reported her missing.
Stobbe was a senior adviser to former Saskatchewan premier Roy Romanow.
The family moved to Manitoba in the spring of 2000 when Stobbe accepted a senior communications job with the Manitoba government.
