A jury was shown gruesome pictures of the skull of Mark Stobbe's slain wife at his murder trial on Wednesday.

A pathologist testified that a significant amount of force was used to create at least 13 blows to Beverly Rowbotham's head.

The Crown alleges Stobbe killed his wife in the family's back yard in October 2000.

On Tuesday, the jury saw video of police taking a DNA sample from Stobbe. In trying to account for all the blood at the crime scene, officers asked Stobbe if there was any reason his blood would be there.

He told police he might have cut himself shaving and that his blood might have been on a towel or face cloth.

Stobbe served as a senior adviser to former Saskatchewan premier Roy Romanow before moving to Winnipeg to work for the Manitoba government.
