A student at the University of Regina wants indigenous studies to be made mandatory for all degree, certificate and diploma programs at the institution.

Julianne Beaudin-Herney started a petition that now has more than 400 signatures.

"More of the story has been told from a non-aboriginal perspective on the history of Canada and there's a lot of people coming out of these classes really enlightened," she said.

Beaudin-Herney says once she gets 2,000 signatures, she will give the petition to U of R president Vianne Timmons.
