At 2:15 p.m. Saturday afternoon, Meadow Lake RCMP responded to an armed robbery report at a local gas station on the 200 block of 9th street in Meadow Lake.

Upon arrival RCMP found a lone 37 year old male suspect armed with a .22 caliber rifle. The suspect fled the scene after obtaining an undisclosed sum of cash.

At 4 p.m. RCMP located the suspect vehicle while on patrol in the Meadow Lake detachment area. RCMP attempted to stop the vehicle but failed, and a pursuit of the suspect ensued. The suspect vehicle crossed a field in a rural area, where he then exited the vehicle and fled into a garage located on a rural property 6.5 km west of Meadow Lake on Highway 55.

RCMP involved report that the man had fired off two rounds from his firearm before entering the garage. No injuries were sustained.

The RCMP contained the scene and deployed their Emergency Response Team to assist. Throughout the night RCMP say they did have communication with the suspect in the garage. However, at approximately 5:50 a.m. the suspect shot himself.

The suspect was taken to Meadow Lake hospital and declared deceased shortly after he arrived. The suspect was a man from Meadow Lake.
