RCMP are looking for a suspect in an armed bank robbery in Kelliher that prompted a “hold and secure” at a school in the community Thursday.

Around 9:15 a.m., RCMP received a report of an armed robbery at a bank in the 400 block of Second Avenue in Kelliher.

RCMP say a man carrying a firearm entered the bank and demanded cash before fleeing on foot.

No one was injured in the incident.

As a precaution, Kelliher School was put under a “hold and secure,” in which exterior doors are locked and monitored but classes continue.

At 2 p.m., RCMP announced the hold and secure at the school had been lifted. Regular school activities have resumed and parents can pick up their children at the usual time.

The suspect in the armed robbery is described as five-foot-six to five-foot-ten with fair skin. He was wearing a green hooded sweatshirt, plaid jacket, jeans and a baseball cap. A dark bandana with a white pattern was covering most of his face.

Police are continuing to investigate and anyone with information is asked to contact RCMP or Crime Stoppers.

Kelliher is located about 140 kilometres northeast of Regina.
