Regina police are investigating an early morning altercation that left a 16-year-old boy seriously injured.

Shortly before 3:30 a.m. Thursday, two patrol officers were responding to an unrelated call when they came across a group of people gathered around a male, who was lying in the street in the 1200 block of Sixth Avenue North.

The 16-year-old boy remains in hospital with injuries described as serious.

The incident is still under investigation, and police say they have not yet identified the suspect or suspects. Police held the area where the victim was found until Thursday afternoon while forensic investigators examined the scene for evidence.
