A 16-year-old boy was killed on Tuesday at the intersection of Highway 1 and 47 near Grenfell, Sask.

Police were called to the area around 7:40 p.m. on Tuesday. Initial investigation showed that the boy was struck by a semi while on foot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the semi was not injured and waited at the scene for police to arrive.

The eastbound lane of Highway 1 was closed for more than seven hours while officers investigated the crash.

The highway re-opened around 2:40 a.m. on Wednesday.
