The new provincial budget is just a week away and Saskatchewan Transportation Company is one of the first to feel the pinch.

The government says there will be no money for new equipment on STC buses this year.

The Crown-owned bus company traditionally receives $3 million annually to modernize its fleet of buses.

Seat sales for seniors and students are also on the chopping block, but the standard senior's discount, medical pass and frequent rider program will remain in effect.

Advertising and promotion has also been cancelled, including STC's high-profile sponsorship of the CTV Hometown Tour.

The move follows last week's announcement of service cuts and a 4.5 per cent fare increase.

Next Wednesday’s provincial budget is expected to trim costs throughout government.
