The Conservatives are in the lead in Saskatchewan, according to a new poll that also puts the NDP on top in Saskatoon and shows a tight race in Regina.

The Mainstreet/Postmedia poll found 34 per cent of respondents in the province would vote Conservative if the federal election were held the day they were surveyed.

The NDP was second with 24 per cent support, while the Liberals trailed in third at 18 per cent. Only four per cent said they would support the Green Party, and the remaining 21 per cent were undecided.

Among decided voters, the Conservatives were first with 43 per cent support, followed by the NDP at 30 per cent, the Liberals at 23 per cent and the Greens at five per cent.

In Regina, it was a three-way race, with the Tories leading the pack at 29 per cent, and the NDP and Liberals close behind at 24 per cent and 23 per cent, respectively. The Green Party garnered four per cent support and 19 per cent were undecided.

It was a different story in Saskatoon, where the NDP was on top at 31 per cent, followed by the Conservatives at 28 per cent and the Liberals at 21 per cent. Support for the Green Party was strongest in the Bridge City at six per cent. Another 13 per cent were undecided.

The Conservatives had a comfortable lead in the rest of Saskatchewan at 37 per cent. The NDP was second at 20 per cent, followed by the Liberals at 15 per cent and the Greens at three per cent. The other 25 per cent were undecided.

When asked who their second choice would be, 31 per cent said the Liberals, 22 per cent the NDP and 17 per cent the Conservatives. Twelve per cent said the Green Party would be their second choice and another 17 per cent were undecided.

The poll, in which 2,853 Saskatchewan residents were surveyed over the phone on Oct. 6, has a margin of error of plus or minus 1.83 per cent 19 times out of 20.
