The federal Transportation Safety Board says it is sending a team to investigate a freight train derailment that occurred Thursday night east of Swift Current.

Strong plow winds were behind the derailment that saw 33 cars go off the track near the community of Waldeck, Canadian Pacific Railway has said.

A CP spokesperson said no dangerous goods were onboard the train and no injuries or leaks have been reported.

A plow wind moves along a narrow, straight path and is usually associated with a thunderstorm.

CP said the line was expected to reopen sometime on Friday.

It's the third time a CPR freight train has derailed in southern Saskatchewan in six weeks.
