A man and a youth have been charged after police found a stolen vehicle in east Regina on Friday morning.

Police found a stolen vehicle on Green Willow Terrace around 3:00 a.m. The canine unit was called to help look for possible suspects, police said in a news release. While waiting for the unit, officers heard noises inside a building under construction. One officer went to investigate the noises, while the other stayed with the stolen vehicle. Police say two men ran towards the stolen vehicle and were challenged by the officer. One dropped a machete he was carrying and lay down on the ground. The second suspect fled on foot. Once the canine unit arrived, the second suspect was found in a nearby backyard. Police say the dog made contact with the suspect and he was treated in hospital for his injuries. Police found several items, including debit cards and garage door openers, inside the vehicle.

Dennis Wayne Joseph Lessard, 27, is facing multiple charges, including breach of undertaking and possession of property obtained by crime. The second suspect, a 16-year-old boy, is facing multiple charges, including possession of a dangerous weapon, possession of break-in instruments and possession of property obtained by crime.

Both will make their first court appearances on Friday afternoon.
