Two more cases of Dutch elm disease have been confirmed in Regina.

The City of Regina says crews removed one city-owned tree in the 100 block of Lincoln Drive on Tuesday morning to prevent the spread of the disease. The other tree, located on Knowles Crescent, will be taken down on July 19.

The number of confirmed cases of Dutch elm disease in Regina this year now totals three. The first case was confirmed on July 4 on Wells Street in the city’s northwest.

Pruning of elm trees is prohibited from April 1 to Aug. 31 under provincial regulation to minimize the risk of spreading the disease.

Regina has lost 97 trees to Dutch elm disease since 1981.
