Two people are facing numerous charges following an incident that saw a police SWAT team descend on a neighbourhood in east Regina on Tuesday afternoon.

Shortly after 12:30 p.m., police received a call about two people with a gun who were getting into a black Honda Civic in North Central Regina.

Just minutes later, police were dispatched to the 1000 block of Athol Street for a call about a break, enter and robbery involving two suspects with guns.

Police say a man and a woman wearing masks had entered a house with a handgun and a shotgun. The perpetrators robbed the occupant of the house of prescription drugs and money before fleeing in a black Honda Civic.

An officer later spotted the suspect vehicle in the 3700 block of Regency Crescent, but the suspects fled and struck a parked car.

Police later found the suspect vehicle parked outside a house in the 400 block of Froom Crescent. Officers set up a perimeter and made several attempts to contact the people inside the home.

Residents in the area were told to shelter in place, and nearby schools were notified as a precaution.

Just before 5 p.m., a SWAT team and crisis negotiators were called to the scene. About two hours later, three people came out of the house and were taken into custody.

Kristen Ashley Allard, 32, and a 23-year-old Justin Derek Pratt, both from Regina, were charged with several offences, including break, enter and commit armed robbery, wearing a disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence and possession of stolen property under $5,000.

Pratt also faces a charge of possession of a firearm contrary to probation, and Allard is also charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident and evading police.

Both accused made their first court appearance Wednesday afternoon.

The third person who was arrested was released without charges.
