Police have charged two youths with first-degree murder in the death of a 16-year-old Regina girl.

The two 16-year-old boys, both from Regina, made their first appearance in youth court Wednesday morning and the case was adjourned until Jan. 21. Their names cannot be released under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Around 5:45 p.m. Monday, police were dispatched to a home in the 400 block of Garnet Street North for a report of an injured or deceased person. When officers arrived, they found the body of a 16-year-old girl. Her name hasn’t been released.

Friends of the victim are reacting to her death with sorrow and shock. Andi Haswell knew her since Grade 2 and says the loss is a major blow.

“It’s just hard to believe that she’s actually gone,” Haswell said.

She and over a dozen other Thom Collegiate students opted to spend time speaking with a school counsellor about the death of the girl, who Haswell described as “an amazing friend.”

“She was always there for me whenever I needed her,” she said. “Just a friendly smile in the hallway from her would make my day better.”

Police investigating the death were holding a second crime scene at a home in Edenwold.
