Tuition fees are going up at the University of Regina.

The university has approved a balanced budget that sees most undergraduate tuition rates increase by four per cent.

Students in engineering, applied science, business administration and most graduate programs face a nine per cent tuition hike.

The budget also calls for more than $3 million in belt-tightening measures. About 25 faculty and staff positions are expected to be cut, but the university says most of those jobs are or will soon be vacant.

Nearly all departmental budgets will be trimmed by three per cent, while the executive office will see a four per cent reduction.
