One man is dead and a Saskatchewan Mountie is in hospital after a crash on Highway 11 near Chamberlain.
RCMP Cpl. Rob King says the officer was at the scene of a single-vehicle rollover on the highway. He was sitting in his cruiser when his car was struck by another vehicle.
Officials have determined that the car that struck the police cruiser was travelling southbound in the northbound lane when it hit the cruiser head on. The driver of the vehicle, a 35-year-old man from Saskatoon, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The officer's, a 47-year-old man from the Craik RCMP division, was taken by STARS air ambulance to a hospital in Regina. His condition is unknown.
The person involved in the rollover had minor injuries.
King says it's tough on members of the RCMP detachment in Craik, Sask., noting that earlier this month another officer was hurt in a single-vehicle rollover en route to a domestic disturbance call.
